A Wholesome tale of life
Singing, in the hall, that God was working his purpose out made me wonder for a moment just what the hell that purpose was as regarded me. We’d all been taught not to think too much about ourselves though so, being an obedient little soul, I dismissed the thought almost immediately. If my being here and doing what I’ve done is part of some grand scheme by an omnipotent creator, I think they may be a tiny bit deranged. Mumbo jumbo aside, I’ve been here quite some time since then and mostly enjoyed the life that I’ve led. So, as far as those distant school assemblies go, along with the rich man in his castle, the poor man at his gate (which still seems a tad unfair) you can add Vera in a boat and make what you will of her.

Main characters.
Vera Potter. Gerald. Vanessa Richards.
Vera. From a very humble start in life, Vera Potter learns fast to live by her wits and make her way in the world in the best manner she can. Though never orthodox in her approach to life, she is never unkind.
Gerald. When the young Vera Potter turns up, the car dealer from close to her home decides that he girl could use a bit of support in her life. An unlikely bond is formed between the two that lasts a lifetime. Gerald is an honest man that is probably a good deal more perceptive than Vera may think.
Vanessa. First her first appearance in Mayfly has Vanessa stepping off of her boat straight into the canal and commencing the process of drowning. A quick rescue by Amanda sees her safe and well but with a very different outlook on life. Though softly spoken and somewhat woolly minded, there is a strength to her character that is there when it needs to be. When the police raided Vera's home for no real reason, she and Vanessa became friends. Te rest of that story is better told by Vera herself.
